Memphis Tigers Game Preview

#23 Memphis Tigers 6-2

Memphis Starting Lineup:
G Tyreke Evans Fr.
G Antonio Anderson Sr.
G/F Wesley Witherspoon Fr.
F  Robert Dozier Sr.
F Pierre Henderson-Niles Jr.

Key Bench Players:
G Doneal Mack Jr.
F Shawn Taggart Jr.
G Willie Kemp Jr.
G Roburt Sallie Jr.

Previous Game:  Arguably Memphis' worst game they've played all season.  Just an 8 point win at home over Arkansas Little Rock.  After going up by 18, Memphis began playing sloppily allowing ARKLR to play themselves back in it late into the second half.  A rally by the Trojans got the lead down to 5, but Memphis pulled away.  Despite 33% shooting and 15% (3-20) from 3.

Game Preview:  Eric Devendorf is serving virtually a two game suspension now, one of them is against Memphis.  That is a big blow to Cuse.  Cuse can still win this game though.  Memphis is one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the nation (27%).  Expect A TON of 2-3 from the Cuse tomorrow.  Until Memphis proves they can shoot.  That means Onuaku is going to have to be active in that zone against Taggert and Dozier.  Another match up to watch is Tyreke Evans v. Jonny Flynn.  I think Flynn is just on another level at this point in his career, Evans definitely has the potential but he's not quite there yet.  Although there is a chance Flynn will not play tomorrow he is a game time decision.  Watch to see who starts in place of Devo, will it be Rautins?  He fits the mold, but Rick Jackson is on fire lately.  That will be something to watch, most likely a game time decision.  This game will be nationally televised and at Memphis so Cuse cannot let the home court fans into it.  Memphis also plays a stout defense in which they average around 30% in 3 point defense.  Cuse has to get it into Onuaku as much as possible and let the nation's leader in FG% score.  If Onuaku goes off, Cuse will too.

My Prediction:  With the loss of Devo there is really no way to tell how the team will react to playing a game without him being out there.  Everyone is going to have to step their game up.  I think Cuse is really going to respond well, and Memphis is in deep trouble because they cannot hit the trey, 27% won't get it done.  Cuse wins it 78-73.

Final Score: 72-65 Syracuse
